Robot-guards Come to the Rescue

The White House has unwanted intruders who has gained access to the whereabouts of President Trump. The Army bases based in foreign countries have been attacked by intruders who drove trucks through the barrack without warning. How can these incidents be stopped? How can early warnings and security measures be put in place?

These days, IT systems and facilities are under attacked from many directions. Cyber threats are getting more and more serious while terror attacks are happening around the world. To minimize terror attacks and increase the physical security of facilities where IT systems and other important assets such as power grids are housed, it is important to increase physical security. Today, we rely on security cameras installed around the buildings and security guards are making their rounds from time to time. But help is on the way. NXT Robotics has integrated robotic and machine vision to create robot-guards called the Scorpion. These unmanned vehicles can provide security watch around the clock.

NXT Robotics has announced the Scorpion, an outdoor, rugged robotic solution for the industrial security applications. This unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) can work tirelessly to provide round-the-clock physical security monitoring. This UGV weights 275 lbs. and measures 36 (W) x 60 (L) x 34 (H) inches with ground clearance of 17 inches. It can drive though paved or unpaved road as well as climbing steep slopes. While it can be controlled via either mobile client or web user interface, it can also be pre-programmed to go through a routine route on a schedule.

This 6-wheel, mean-looking vehicle has built-in intelligence and machine vision including the Infrared Night-vision Camera and Depth Camera (640×480 at 60 fps) and is capable of Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) and is ONVIF Compliant. Additionally, it can detect face, body and pattern and keep track of people with a counter. Connection include Wi-Fi and 3G/4G along with email and SMS capability. Sensors can detect gas, open flame, human movement, acoustic (gunshots, breaking glass, etc.) The Field of View (FoV) is 46 (vertical) and 59 (horizontal) degrees. Power input is 24VDC with optional 5-24VDC and 120VAC. Operational range is -4 to 160 degree Fahrenheit with one full charge (charging time of 3 to 4 hours) the Scorpion will have run time of 8 to 12 hours.
