EnOcean GmbH is the originator of patented energy harvesting wireless technology. EnOcean offers energy harvesting wireless modules using sub-1 GHz frequency band with EnOcean radio optimized for use in building automation and smart home. Additionally, the portfolio contains modules using 2.4 GHz standards, such as ZigBee and soon BLE for globally usable applications. First demonstrators of self-powered wireless switches using BLE were already shown at Light+Building 2016 for worldwide usage of smart home applications. The first BLE prototypes have been developed within the partnership of EnOcean GmbH, the energy harvesting wireless technology leader, and Gooee, the IoT platform provider for lighting, in order to integrate BLE-based self-powered wall switch modules into the Bluetooth Smart Mesh stack. These solutions will be available at the end of 2016.
EnOcean’s energy harvesting wireless technology provides self-powered, wireless sensors to capture and transmit data across an increasingly connected IoT network, which requires trillions of sensor data. They use miniaturized energy converters, which gain energy from motion, light and temperature of the surrounding environment, allowing the sensors to work without batteries, and are maintenance-free. The converters, together with wireless modules, comprehensive energy management and ultra-low power radio communication offer OEMs a complete energy harvesting platform.
In collaboration with IBM Watson and element14, EnOcean will soon launch a self-powered IoT starter kit to enable users (enterprise kit) and makers (entrepreneur kit) a flexible and cost-effective gateway to develop intelligent building products using sub-1 GHz radio for hospitals, homes, airports, etc. to a seamlessly connected IoT.
In smart buildings, with first installations over 15 years ago, wireless technologies have increased as a flexible alternative in recent years and established themselves well. Here, the sensors, delivering the necessary data and process control commands, can be wirelessly placed in the building at the appropriate points of measurement. Consequently, these solutions are flexible and cost-efficient in building automation, as well as providing comfort and security in the smart home. Moreover, when devices and applications with batteryless wireless technology using EnOcean radio standard are employed, the lifecycle costs and maintenance effort will remain low.
